Overnight Supervisor

Simon McLachlan

My introduction to SSL was serendipitous. Quite unexpectedly it has rekindled my love of working with young people. Having been a bio-dynamic farmer in Qld in my younger years, I started working with year 9 students at St Joseph’s College, Ferntree Gully when I moved down to Victoria in 2005. Shortly after, my wife Josie and I spent 3 years Directing Wollangarra Outdoor Education Centre in Gippsland. At this time, we started a family and have two wonderful boys, Thomas and Finny, who are now teenagers. After finishing our contract at Wollangarra we moved to the Yarra Valley. I began working in Vineyards, reconnecting to my passion for horticulture and working outdoors.

Soon after moving to the Yarra Valley, we were lucky to purchase 20 acres in Hoddles Creek (10 minutes from Don Valley Campus). I have been developing a certified bio-dynamic farming enterprise.

I work in the part time roll as Overnight Supervisor in the evenings and farm during the day (amongst other things). I really enjoy working as part of a positive, functional staff team with a clear purpose. I also look forward to the challenge of working with this age group of young people when I roll through the doors at 4:30pm. I love a good honest project to sink my teeth into.
