OVERVIEW

SSL Student Program
Classes & Timetable

Every emerging leader participates in all the same classes during their stay at the School for Student Leadership (SSL).

DON VALLEY CAMPUS

The classes highlighted in this example week below, follow the timetable of student classes for the two Core Groups, 1A and 1B.

EM2 Foundation

Second class within the Learning Concept of Emotional Management. Students explore how their emotions are formed and what internal and external factors contribute. This class is a combination of class discussion, sharing, exploring online, and recording their findings/learning on their OneNote.

iLead 3 & 4

Part of the iLead series, the students reflect on their Bridge Building session and learn from each other what worked and how they can improve. They provide feedback to their feedback buddy and receive feedback from their expo teacher. This self-reflection and feedback is used as a springboard as to what they want to develop and apply during their first overnight expedition.

HW2: CPR

Second class from the Health & Well-Being learning concept sessions. Students learn about providing basic first aid and concentrate more so on CPR, they utilize scenarios, ‘CPR dummies’ and each other to develop their understanding of first aid.

Social Thinking Games

A evening class of social interaction within a small group, the notion is be present within the game and share a moment together.

CLP 4: Masterplan

Students have their Community Learning Project finalised and use resources provided to them to create their ‘Master Plan’ which will dictate their plan on how they’ll be contributing to their local communities upon returning from SSL.

Resilience 1: Foundation

Students reflect on their own personal qualities and strengths and know how they, along with a growth mindset, can help them overcome challenges. Students will explore the models of Performance vs Pressure and Comfort Zone and understand how taking ownership of their actions and behaviours towards challenges effects resilience.

HW3: First Aid

Students role play being a first-aider and a patient over a variety of scenarios, students learn how to apply splints, triangular bandages, and strategies on how to remain calm in challenging situations. Third class from the Health & Well-Being learning concept sessions.

SSL Program: Week 3

Enviro 2

Second class within the Learning Concept of Environments. Students discuss built environments and some of the challenges they have on achieving sustainability. Students learn about the tensions built environments have which include wastage, recycling, and impacts to flora and fauna.

Film: First Contact

Parts 1,2 and 3 shown over three evening classes. First Contact explores the deep divide by taking a group of six non-Indigenous people, from different walks of life and with strong and varied opinions and immersing them into Aboriginal Australia for the first time

MTB 2

Second class of the Mountain Bike Riding sequence. We leave Don Valley Campus and ride the famous rail trail between Lilydale & Warburton, options include the O’Shannasy Aquaduct Trail. Our skills are built up throughout the program; the students have the option for a bbq lunch or sandwiches.

Mindfulness/Yoga

Students embark on learning different relaxation techniques.

Identity 2: Foundation

Students start to discover and unpack what factors shape their own and other’s identity. They analyse how actions and behaviours can influence our relationships and decision making.

Film: Old People’s Home for Teenagers

Part 1: In a compelling new intergenerational experiment, older adults are brought together with teenagers to see if the power of this intergenerational program can transform the lives of older people and teenagers amid an epidemic of loneliness.

Student Led Activity

Students create their own Friday night class which is both enjoyable and inclusive for everyone.
