Generalist Teacher

Michael Heyne

I grew up in a small community in East Gippsland which helped to establish my love of the outdoors and the important of spending time outside. After finishing school, I relocated to Melbourne to attend University and then started my career in education in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. Working in large mainstream school, I worked in a variety of roles including teaching P-12, across a variety of domains, and working as a Leading Teacher and Assistant Principal in Student Wellbeing and Engagement.

I started my association with the School for Student Leadership (The Alpine School) while working with the China New Horizons Program, supporting rural and regional Victorian Government students to undertake a 6-week intensive international learning experience in Southern China. In 2020 I was appointed the foundational Campus Principal of the Don Valley Campus. More recently I have stepped into an Expedition Teacher position at the Don Valley Campus, which provides me with the opportunity to work more directly with students and to share my passion of experiential learning and the outdoors.
